I'm not a fan of the Artsy Smartsy Club book, but I guess I can just chuck it as a "message book" -- one I probably need to learn as much as the kids the book is directed at -- and allow for the identification of original sources for the illustrations to carry the day.

Well that settles it. Not being age 0 to 4 I am not allowed to look at Irving and Muktuk.

Totally unrelated to your post, but I have a serious analytical and intellectual question about the REAL message behind a Pinkwater children's story that I've long adored. Possible discussion about this, please? I've scoured google far and wide, but have yet to turn up anything more promising than this blog.

I don't know if Pinkwater does "REAL" messages, or singular answers at least (well, except when he does... re: Artsy Smartsy Club), and I don't know how analytical or intellectual I'm willing or able to go.

I would almost suggest the "Talk to DP" page at Pinkwater's web-page, but Pinkwater doesn't do straight answers of this type, and will almost surely provide a more or less amusing cute answer. For some analysis on some of his books, there is "Agony and the Eggplant", likely available at your public library or local university library, and mostly focused on his adolescent novels.

All that being put aside, what story are you referring to?
